Patrolman David W. Smith Jr.: End of Watch March 31, 2014

On March 31, 2014 Patrolman David W. Smith Jr. responded to a disturbance call on Harrison Street in Johnson City, NY. Upon arrival on scene, a male subject  immediately attacked Patrolman Smith as he was attempting to exit his marked patrol car. The male was able to disarm Patrolman Smith of his duty weapon, and ultimately shot Patrolman Smith two times, with these shots proving to be fatal.

A second officer arrived on scene just as the fatal shots were fired, and he was able to return fire striking the male multiple times, ending the threat. The second officer was not injured.

Patrolman David W. Smith Jr. served with the Johnson City Police Department for 18 1/2 years..

 

                

 

 

Patrolman Harold Huff: End of Watch August 9, 1925

Patrolman Harold Huff died after a train struck his police patrol vehicle.

Patrolman Huff, along with another officer and a firefighter were responding to a report that a man was beating his daughter. Their vehicle was struck by a Delaware, Lackawanna and Western Railroad passenger train. Patrolman Huff was killed instantly. The other two men in the vehicle were injured but recovered.

Patrolman Harold Huff had served with the Johnson City Police Department for five months.

 

K-9 C.J. : End of Watch September 25, 2015

K-9 C.J. Passed away on September 25, 2015 following a brief battle with Cancer. K-9 C.J. was highly regarded by the community he served and will be missed greatly. K-9 C.J. served with the Johnson City Police Department for five years.
