Community Engagement Officer

Community engagement increases involvement, impact, trust and communication in our community.

The main focus of the Johnson City Police Department Community Engagement Officer is to maintain a consistent presence in the Main Street business district via walking and bicycle patrols which gives the chance to interact closely with the community. The Community Engagement Officer will utilize community policing practices to connect with businesses and their patrons as well as residents including Binghamton University students, to help foster a safe and welcoming environment.

The Community Engagement Officer is also tasked with enforcing laws and local ordinances that improve the safety and quality of life for those living, visiting, and conducting business in the Main Street business district. The Community Engagement Officer will engage with any group of people whether it be citizens who are living in the village or visiting the area, with a group of employees or customers in the area. It is about collaboration between groups of people to achieve shared vision or a goal towards bettering the surrounding community. The Community Engagement Officer will work in a proactive way, getting to know the people who live and work around the Village of Johnson City.

We believe that by interacting with communities, we can reduce crime and increase the Quality of Life for the people we serve.
