The purpose of the Police Association is to be a fraternal organization that provides support for all of its members. The organization is designed to aid its members in the pursuit of their organizational goals. The Police Association also promotes and assists with maintaining professionalism on the part of its members as well as promoting awareness by the general public regarding the role and function of its members to the community.
Additionally, the Police Union contributes to many non-profit organizations in the community supporting their efforts and striving to make our area a better place to live, work and enjoy.
The Johnson City Police Association is made of five (5) elected board members who are nominated and voted on by the membership of the Police Association. Each board member serves a two (2) year term, with no term limits.

The Johnson City Police Association is affiliated with the International Union of Police Associations and the New York State Union of Police Associations. This union affiliation provides union members with advice on collective bargaining, grievance procedures, disciplinary issues and day to day legal advice.

In the spring of 2001 the Johnson City Police Association began offering the "George Korutz Memorial Scholarship" which in 2015 was renamed the "D.W. Smith Memorial Scholarship" to a high school senior in Broome County who: Is accepted into a Criminal Justice Program at a college of their choice; AND submits an essay of 2500 words or less explaining why he/she desires to be a law enforcement officer, what he/she feels the challenges for law enforcement officers are today, and how they feel they would meet those challenges as a law enforcement officer. The Scholarship Committee of the police association will chose one recipient and notification will be made at their high school scholarship awards ceremony. A copy of the letter sent out by the JC Police Association can be found in the Guidance Offices of all schools in Broome County, or you may contact Ptl Jody Kennedy at 607-729-9321 for details or email him using the the email section below.
