😕FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS:
❓Why is there Alternate Side Parking?
✔️Alternate Side Parking rules allow one side of the street to remain clear of parked vehicles to allow for DPW to clear the street of snow. Then on the next day, the opposite side can be cleared.
❓Why are these rules in effect 24/7?
✔️The rules are in place to enhance DPW’s ability to clear streets of snow during all hours of the day, especially so that they can work to clear streets during normal operating hours in the days following a snow event.
❓How do I know what side to park on and when do I change sides?
✔️Parking is permitted on the even side of the street on even calendar days until 4:59 p.m. The even side of the street shall be that side of the street having even residence house numbers. Parking is permitted on the odd side of the street on odd calendar days. The odd side of the street shall be that side of the street having odd residence house numbers. Parking shall be permitted from 5:00 p.m. daily and shall be in effect until 4:59 p.m. the following day. After 5:00 p.m., on even days, drivers should park on the odd side of the street. After 5:00 p.m. on odd days, drivers should park on the even side of the street.
❓What if I can’t move my vehicle at 5PM… Am I going to get a ticket?
✔️The JCPD understands that not everyone can reasonably move their vehicles at preciously 5PM therefore Officers will exercise discretion and enforcement will be based within reason and necessity. Please know that it is not our intention to be standing guard to issue parking tickets at 5:00 PM. We ask that everyone be familiar with the regulations and to comply with them within a reasonable amount of time.
❓Why is Alternate Side Parking enforced even when it isn’t snowing or supposed to snow?
✔️Alternate Rules are in place 24/7 for a few reasons.
For these reasons, the rules of alternate street parking need to be continuously followed regardless of the current weather conditions. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.
Examples of parking situations:
Snow Emergency Routes prohibit on-street parking after two inch or more snowfall until plowing operations have ceased. If there is 2” or more of snowfall, all vehicles must be moved off the street until the snow event has ended and plowing is complete. Failure to move your vehicle could result in a ticket and/or tow. Snow Emergency Routes are designated by signs posted on those blocks. Snow Emergency Route rules can apply at any time, not just during the Dec 1 to March 31 alternate side parking period.
Overnight parking in on-street metered or pay-to-park zones is prohibited from December 1st through March 31st, from the hours of 12:01 a.m. to 6:00 a.m. (Excludes municipal parking lots)
